Grief Recovery

Are you suffering from a broken heart? Was it a result of a death, or a divorce, or the end of a romantic relationship?

I am not going to tell you, “I know how you feel,” because I don’t. Neither does anyone else. What I will do is provide a safe environment where you will be given specific tools to help you recover from loss and ultimately lead a happier life.

What is Grief?

Simply defined, grief is the normal and natural emotional response to loss, but most of the information we’ve learned about dealing with loss is intellectual. Although the Grief Recovery Groups involve some educational elements, effective grief recovery must deal with your broken heart, which requires emotional support instead of intellectual explanations.

There are 40 losses which can produce the range of emotions that we call grief. The long list includes: death, divorce, estrangements in relationships, major personal injury or illness, pet loss, retirement, major financial changes, and moving.

The Grief Recovery Method® Grief Recovery Group helps to guide people through the correct action choices that help them move beyond the pain caused by loss. It is a program which creates a safe environment in which to look at old beliefs about dealing with loss; to look at what losses have affected your life; and to take new actions which lead to completion of the pain attached to one of those losses.

Please know that it is never too soon to address your grief. If you broke your leg would you wait to call the doctor? Then why wait to get help with a broken heart?

As with most people, you have probably heard that "time heals all wounds." That piece of misinformation creates the idea that you just have to wait to feel better. Unfortunately, there are some people who have waited ten, twenty, thirty, and forty years, and still didn’t feel better. And they would tell you that not only had time not healed them, but also it compounded the pain. It’s not time that heals, but what you do within time.

What pathway to feeling better is right for you?

  • If you are comfortable learning within a group environment, then an eight-week Group Grief Recovery Program will suit you fine.
  • If you are uncomfortable in a group setting and prefer a private environment in which to articulate feelings, then One-on-One Grief Recovery sessions are the right choice for you.

Recovery from a broken heart takes work

After more than 30 years in existence, the Grief Recovery Institute© has helped hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world with the pain, isolation and loneliness caused by grief. The Grief Recovery Method® is a practical and proven method in which you acknowledge, process, and become complete with your loss experiences. This is not a passive process – you have to take responsibility for your actions and do “The Work” that it takes to move through grief.  The small and correct choices that you will be guided in are simple, but they are not emotionally easy. The difference is… they work.

This is an educational process and experiential in nature so you will feel emotions you have tried to suppress.
